Service Type:

Supported Hostel (with Residential Respite Service)

Service Hours:

24-hour operation

Service Objectives

  • Supported Hostel: It provides group home living for people with disabilities who can only live semi-independently with a fair amount of assistance from hostel staff in daily activities.

  • Residential Respite Service: Respite service is a community support service that provides short-term residential care for persons with disabilities, including persons with intellectual disability, physical disability, hearing impairment, visual impairment and persons in mental recovery, so that carers may take a short break and reduce caring pressure, thereby encouraging and assisting persons with disabilities to live in the community.

Target Group

  • Supported Hostel: People with disabilities who are aged 15 or above; capable of semi-independent living, i.e. mastery of self-care skills but may need a fair amount of guidance/assistance in some domestic tasks like cooking or washing or in community living activities like shopping; actively occupied in various forms of employment or day training; physically and mentally suitable for group living; and have no drug / alcoholic abuse.

  • Residential Respite Service: The target service users are persons with disabilities aged 6 or above who are willing and suitable for communal living.

Scopes of Service

  • Supported Hostel: The Supported Hostel provides home-like accommodation and meal services for persons with disabilities. Guidance and assistance are offered to residents in handling household chores and daily living activities. Opportunities and activities are arranged to help them develop skills in independent living, social interaction, communication, and decision-making, while meeting their social and recreational needs and enabling them to maintain contact with their families and the community.

  • Residential Respite Service: Respite services may be used on a recurrent basis, with each service period normally not exceeding 14 consecutive days, so as to encourage more PWDs in need to use the services. Depending on the applicant’s needs, the service unit may extend the service period to a maximum of 42 consecutive days. If a service user requires a longer period of respite service under special circumstances, the service unit is required to consult the SWD.

Facilities

  • Facilities include bedrooms, a living/dining room, a group activity room, a kitchen, a pantry, a laundry room, karaoke facilities, and other recreational amenities.

Fees

  • Supported Hostel: HK$897 per month for 50% disabled adults; HK$977 per month for 100% disabled adults / Disability Allowance recipients.

  • Residential Respite Service: Service charges are calculated on a daily basis. The daily fee for Supported Hostel is HK$33 for service users receiving Disability Allowance and HK$30 for service users not receiving Disability Allowance.

  • Activity fees are charged according to individual activities.

Application Procedures

  • Supported Hostel: Referrals can be made by social workers and staff of rehabilitation service units to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services of the SWD.

The application is free of charge.

  • Residential Respite Service: Persons with disabilities and/or their carers may make enquiries and applications directly to the hostel, or through referrals by social workers of Medical Social Services Units, Integrated Family Service Centres, special schools, rehabilitation service units or the Designated Hotline for Carer Support.

Service users are required to undergo a medical examination conducted by a registered medical practitioner using the “Medical Examination Form for Residents in Residential Care Homes for Persons with Disabilities” before admission.

In urgent or special circumstances where the medical examination cannot be completed before admission, it may be conducted within three days after admission.

In case of urgent need and where vacancies are available, the service unit should arrange Residential Respite Service immediately.

Withdrawal Procedures

Application may be made to the hostel.
